Redfish Fishing in Pensacola

Redfish (Sciaenops ocellatus) are incredibly adaptable and can be found in a variety of habitats, from shallow, sandy flats and mangrove shorelines to deeper channels and nearshore reefs. Juvenile redfish are often found in schools in the backcountry, while larger 'bull' reds tend to roam the surf and nearshore waters. They are known for their strong runs and willingness to take a variety of baits and lures. Casting artificials like soft plastics, topwater plugs, and jigs is very effective, as is presenting live bait such as shrimp or pinfish. Their presence of ocelli, or 'eyespot' on their tail, is a unique characteristic.
