Redfish, also known as Channel Bass or Reds, are a favorite among inshore anglers. They are incredibly adaptable and can be found in a variety of habitats, from shallow, grassy flats and mangrove shorelines to oyster bars and deeper channels. Their diet consists of crabs, shrimp, and smaller fish, making them susceptible to both live and artificial offerings. When fishing for Redfish, stealth is often key. We'll often pole the boat quietly into shallow areas to avoid spooking them. Casting live shrimp, pinfish, or artificial lures like soft plastics, topwater plugs, and jigs to cruising or feeding fish is a common strategy. The 'tailing' redfish, where their tail fins break the surface as they feed in shallow water, is a sight every angler dreams of.
